The “ugly?” lamp of Hans.
Playing around:
The lamp in itself is quite a closed world. It carries a history that is linked to a similar world as the red light district where there lives a specific kind of aesthetics. So wherever I placed it, it stayed quite itself. I could imagine it as a dress for a Barbie doll. And when I was putting it on the head of a Eurasian Coot it also worked quite well as a crown but in these cases I didn’t want to change it anymore but just add it somewhere. So I decided that the lamp had to become more neutral in order to make the next step possible.
Transformation:
Reduce the amount of colors!
When the lamp was white it was totally lost and became a hanging cream pie.
In grey it looked like it was a stone statue itself, which made it extremely stiff.
Black turned out to be quite attractive, so for now I keep it like this.
Maybe it will change later into another color again but then the color should have a specific reason or function.
Looking to its history/context:
Windows, behind the glass…I made the lamp a round piece of glass in the size of the bottom of the lamp.
Shadows…Pin-up pictures came to mind, fitting to the red light district, well, to the profession of the owner of the lamp.
I keep in mind that the owner has three more of these lamps at home. I can either make four objects with each their own personal details, or I can put them together into one object. As soon as I find a reason for it I will ask for the others. Or should I just decide to work with four and then the reason will come?
